Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday called on the nation to move forward with firm confidence and take concrete steps toward achieving the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks at a reception held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing to mark the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
China’s National Day is celebrated on October 1.
Premier Li Qiang presided over the reception, which was attended by Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi and Han Zheng, along with around 800 guests.
“The great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is unstoppable,” Xi said, stressing that continued confidence, clear goals and steady progress would ultimately lead to success for the CPC, the Chinese people and the People’s Republic of China.
Xi noted that over the past 77 years, the CPC has led the Chinese people in achieving what he described as two major miracles: rapid economic growth and long-term social stability.
He said China takes great pride in the achievements of New China and remains confident in the prospects of Chinese modernization.
Since the beginning of the year, the Chinese economy has continued to develop despite growing pressures, achieving progress in innovation-driven and high-quality development and demonstrating strong resilience and vitality, Xi said.
He called for efforts to maintain this momentum, promote innovation-driven, high-quality and sound economic growth, improve and safeguard people’s livelihoods, and accomplish the targets and tasks set for the year. These efforts, he said, would help ensure a strong start to the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030).
Xi also stressed the importance of remaining firmly committed to the “one country, two systems” policy, under which Hong Kong and Macao administer their own affairs while enjoying a high degree of autonomy.
He said the central government would continue supporting Hong Kong and Macao in integrating more deeply into the country’s overall development, while working to safeguard their long-term prosperity and stability.
On cross-Strait relations, Xi called for greater exchanges and cooperation, opposition to separatist forces advocating “Taiwan independence” and resistance to external interference. He also called for promoting the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations in pursuit of national reunification.
Xi said China would continue pursuing an independent foreign policy of peace, advance the implementation of the four major global initiatives it has proposed, and promote the building of a community with a shared future for humanity, contributing greater certainty and positive momentum to a turbulent world.
