At the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar visited China from January 3–5, 2026. On January 4, both leaders co-chaired the 7th China-Pakistan Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue in Beijing.
The two sides held comprehensive discussions covering bilateral relations, including political and strategic cooperation, defence and security, trade, investment, economic collaboration, and cultural exchanges. Regional and global developments were also reviewed. Both countries agreed to strengthen strategic communication, enhance mutual trust, safeguard shared interests, and contribute to regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
To mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026, both sides announced commemorative activities aimed at deepening the longstanding China-Pakistan friendship and expanding cooperation into new areas.
Reaffirming their All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership, both countries emphasized the importance of high-level exchanges and committed to implementing the 2025–2029 Action Plan for building a closer China-Pakistan Community with a Shared Future.
Pakistan praised China’s development progress and modernization efforts, while China acknowledged Pakistan’s economic stabilization initiatives under its National Economic Transformation Plan (2024–2029).
Both sides reiterated firm support for each other’s core interests. Pakistan reaffirmed its adherence to the One-China principle and support on issues concerning Taiwan, Xinjiang, Xizang, Hong Kong, and the South China Sea. China reaffirmed its support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, development path, and counter-terrorism efforts.
The two countries agreed to deepen counter-terrorism cooperation and ensure the security of Belt and Road projects. They committed to advancing CPEC 2.0, focusing on industry, agriculture, mining, Gwadar Port development, infrastructure connectivity, trade, technology, and people-to-people exchanges. Financial cooperation and third-party participation in CPEC were also welcomed.
Expanding collaboration in space exploration, multilateral forums, and regional mechanisms was also discussed. China expressed support for Pakistan’s role in the UN and its upcoming SCO presidency.
Both sides emphasized peaceful dispute resolution in South Asia, cooperation on Afghanistan, and the importance of regional stability. They called for dismantling terrorist networks operating from Afghan territory.
On global issues, both countries supported multilateralism, free trade, reform of global governance, and a just international order. They called for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and reiterated support for the two-state solution for Palestine.
The visit concluded with appreciation for the warm hospitality extended to the Pakistani delegation. The next Strategic Dialogue will be held in Islamabad on mutually agreed dates.
