Zardari extends lunar new year greetings, reaffirms Pakistan-China ‘Iron Brotherhood

President Asif Ali Zardari conveyed warm greetings to the leadership, government and people of China on the occasion of the Lunar New Year, describing the forthcoming Year of the Horse as a representation of vitality, advancement and resilience.

In his message, he observed that 2026 will commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Pakistan and China, emphasizing that the bond between the two nations is time-tested, all-weather and ironclad.

The President reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to the One China policy and commended China’s principled position on the Kashmir issue. He also recalled the landmark meeting between former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Chairman Mao Zedong, terming it a pivotal moment that laid the groundwork for enduring bilateral relations.

Applauding the leadership of President Xi Jinping, he stated that China continues to make a meaningful contribution to global peace and development. He highlighted China’s active role in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and described Pakistan-China defense and security collaboration as essential for maintaining regional stability.

President Zardari referred to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor as a transformative initiative under the Belt and Road Initiative and reiterated Pakistan’s determination to advance into its next phase to achieve shared prosperity. He also extended his best wishes to the Chinese people in Mandarin, saying “Gong Xi Fa Cai” and “Xin Nian Kuai Le.”

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also conveyed sincere greetings to President Xi Jinping and the people of China on the Lunar New Year.

In his congratulatory message, he expressed confidence that the new year would further deepen friendship and enhance mutual cooperation between the two countries. The Prime Minister wished the Chinese people good health, success and prosperity, reaffirming that Pakistan-China relations have remained strong and will continue to flourish in the years to come.
