China says Japan’s remilitarization is retrogression, path of no return

A spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry said on Monday that Japan is moving back toward remilitarization, warning that it is taking a path with serious consequences.

Responding to a related question at a regular press briefing, spokesperson Guo Jiakun said the Japanese military, which carried out large-scale human experimentation and biological warfare during World War II, should never be forgotten, describing those actions as a lasting stain on history.

Guo said the 1949 Khabarovsk Trial, which he described as an extension and complement to the Tokyo Trials, preserved extensive audio recordings, transcripts, and physical evidence documenting the Japanese military’s biological warfare activities. He added that these historical records have helped people around the world, including the Japanese public, better understand this tragic chapter of history.

According to Guo, only by respecting historical facts, acknowledging the full historical record, and safeguarding peace can the tragedies of war be prevented from recurring.

Guo also urged Japan to engage in what he described as serious reflection on its wartime past, make a complete break with militarism, and build the trust of its Asian neighbors and the international community through concrete actions.
