pk-china-user Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and Kashgar University have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening academic cooperation, student and faculty exchanges, joint research, and wider institutional engagement between the two universities.
The agreement was signed on August 14 by Dr. Tariq Jadoon, Provost of LUMS, and Prof. Palidan Tursun, President of Kashgar University, during the 15th Xinjiang Kashgar–Central and South Asia Commodity Fair.
The partnership represents a new development in China-Pakistan educational cooperation and is expected to open up opportunities for student exchange programmes, faculty visits, collaborative research projects, and greater academic dialogue.
Hui Qi, Adjunct Faculty at LUMS, who witnessed the signing ceremony, termed the agreement an important milestone in educational and people-to-people exchanges between China and Pakistan. He said that connectivity is not limited to railways, roads, and trade corridors, as universities bring people together, students connect cultures, research links ideas, and education builds relationships that can endure for generations.
Kashgar, a historic centre along the ancient Silk Road and China’s western gateway, holds a strategic position connecting China with Central and South Asia. Its geographical proximity to Pakistan also places Kashgar University in a position to potentially serve as an important academic bridge between the two countries.
The agreement was signed during the five-day Kashgar–Central and South Asia Commodity Fair, which brought together more than 1,100 Chinese companies and 181 enterprises from 40 countries and regions, including Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Ghana.
The fair focused on promoting international trade and investment through business matchmaking and cooperation in various sectors, including biomedicine, cultural tourism, textiles, and agriculture.
Pakistani companies also took part in the event, highlighting the growing economic and commercial engagement between Pakistan, China, and the broader Central and South Asian region.
