The Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) launched a citywide tree plantation campaign on February 10 to mark the arrival of the spring season.
Under the current drive, approximately 2,000 saplings will be planted in various parts of Gwadar during the season.
GDA Director Environment Rasool Bakhsh Baloch and Environment Officer Hamal Dashti told Gwadar Pro that the campaign will cover areas including GDA School, Syed Zahoor Shah Hashmi Road (Airport Road), Marine Drive, several city circles, and other key locations.
The campaign commenced at GDA School, where students, along with Principal Dr. Muhammad Muzaffar Noor, actively took part in planting different types of saplings and trees. Addressing the students on the occasion, the principal emphasized the importance of tree plantation for promoting greenery, enhancing the environment, and ensuring environmental protection in the city and surrounding areas.
GDA has urged citizens to actively support the campaign by not only planting trees but also ensuring their proper care, protection, and regular watering.
According to the authority, in a coastal and semi-desert region like Gwadar, safeguarding newly planted saplings from grazing by stray and domestic animals remains a major challenge, often resulting in damage to plants. Therefore, residents have been requested to cooperate in preventing animal intrusion, protecting young plants, and maintaining green spaces to ensure lasting benefits from the campaign and to help realize the vision of a clean, green, and beautiful Gwadar.
