FWO named successful bidder to rehabilitate 58-km Dassu-Sazin section of historic Karakoram Highway

The National Highway Authority (NHA) on Friday released the final evaluation report for the up-gradation and rehabilitation of a section of the Karakoram Highway (KKH), the historic route linking Pakistan and China and widely regarded as a symbol of the enduring friendship between the two nations.

According to the official document, the project titled “Up-gradation/Rehabilitation of KKH N-35 Between KM 292+00 – 350+00 Dassu-Sazin” was awarded through a single-stage, two-envelope bidding process in line with public procurement regulations.

M/s Frontier Works Organization (FWO) emerged as the lowest evaluated bidder, quoting a rebated cost of Rs 5,608,170,338 (approximately Rs 5.6 billion). The firm was declared responsive under the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) Rules, 2004.

The project will be financed through NHA’s Road Maintenance Account (RMA), as per the bidding details.

The contract covers the improvement and rehabilitation of the KKH stretch between Dassu and Sazin. Also known as National Highway-35 (N-35), the Karakoram Highway serves as a critical transport corridor between Pakistan and China, promoting regional connectivity, trade, and economic cooperation.

As one of the most significant infrastructure links between the two neighboring countries, the KKH plays a central role in strengthening bilateral connectivity and fostering deeper economic integration.
