The Higher Education Commission Pakistan has awarded 98 undergraduate scholarships to students from Balochistan’s coastal regions, aiming to improve access to higher education and equip local youth for opportunities emerging under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
According to an official statement, the selection process for additional students is ongoing. The scholarships are part of the Coastal Region Higher Education Scholarships for Undergraduate Programmes, launched in 2022–23 under the Government of Pakistan’s Southern Balochistan Development Package.
The programme targets students holding domicile from key coastal districts including Gwadar, Lasbela, Kech, and Awaran, enabling them to pursue BS degrees at HEC-recognised universities across Pakistan.
With a goal of sponsoring 200 students, the initiative has so far awarded 98 scholarships across three batches. Interest in the programme continues to grow, with over 800 applications received for the fourth batch alone.
Covering all academic disciplines, the scholarship programme has significantly expanded access to higher education in the region, particularly benefiting underprivileged communities and female students, while contributing to long-term socio-economic development.
