pk-china-user A two-day ministerial conference of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on women opened in Islamabad on Sunday, bringing together representatives from member states to discuss women’s empowerment, gender inclusion and sustainable development across the Muslim world.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said the conference would help translate commitments on women’s empowerment into tangible and measurable progress across OIC member countries.
Looking ahead to the ministerial deliberations, Dar expressed hope that delegates would engage in meaningful discussions on issues of critical importance to women and girls throughout the Muslim world, with a focus on practical solutions and stronger cooperation.
Pakistan’s Minister for Law and Justice, Azam Nazeer Tarar, said the conference provides an important platform for member states to exchange experiences and best practices in education, healthcare, entrepreneurship and women’s economic participation.
He added that participants would also explore ways to strengthen collaboration on policies designed to improve the social and economic status of women across OIC countries.
According to an official statement, the conference will also facilitate bilateral and multilateral meetings among participating delegations to enhance cooperation in trade, education, culture, development and security.
The ministerial meeting is expected to conclude with the adoption of a joint declaration outlining shared commitments to advancing women’s role in development and expanding cooperation among OIC member states.
