Owing to the prevailing regional maritime situation and ongoing tensions, commercial activity at Gwadar Port has increased, with another transshipment vessel berthing at the port and beginning cargo handling operations.
According to official details, the Bangladesh-flagged vessel M/V JAHAN BROTHERS II arrived at Gwadar Port on July 18 after sailing from Singapore with 53,064.660 metric tons of prime steel billets. The cargo is ultimately destined for Al Hamriyah Port in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The shipment will be temporarily unloaded and stored at Gwadar Port before being transferred to another vessel for onward transportation to the UAE.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said the continuation of commercial operations at Gwadar Port despite the current regional maritime situation demonstrates Pakistan’s expanding port capabilities and growing confidence in its maritime sector.
He noted that the increase in transshipment activities underscores Gwadar Port’s strategic location and its potential to emerge as a major alternative trade gateway for the region.
The minister added that the Government of Pakistan remains committed to upgrading port infrastructure, facilitating international shipping lines, and ensuring the smooth and uninterrupted flow of regional trade.
Chairman of the Gwadar Port Authority, Noor-ul-Haq Baloch, said the uninterrupted continuation of port and commercial operations despite the prevailing regional maritime situation highlights Gwadar Port’s emergence as a safe, reliable, and efficient regional trade hub.
He added that the successful handling of transshipment cargo is enhancing the confidence of international shipping lines in Gwadar Port while reinforcing its position as an important alternative trade route for regional commerce. He emphasized that the port remains fully committed to maintaining efficient operations and facilitating regional trade.
The successful management of transshipment cargo at Gwadar Port reflects the port’s growing operational strength and the increasing confidence of the international maritime community in its capabilities.
